Chihuahua Garcia Mexican Grill

Scratch-made Mexican in the heart of Escalante

(154)
Escalante, UT

About

Chihuahua Garcia Mexican Grill opened its brick-and-mortar location on Escalante's Main Street in early 2026, graduating from a food truck operation that had already built a loyal following among locals and canyon-country travelers. Owners Edgar Garcia and Johanna Gonzalez run the place themselves, and the food reflects their roots: authentic Mexican cooking, not a tourist approximation of it.

What to Order

The menu centers on tacos, burritos, and bowls made with ingredients prepared in-house daily. Shrimp tacos, fish tacos, and wet burritos are among the standout items, and the kitchen makes its salsa and pickled onions from scratch. Chips are house-made and well-salted. Portions run generous. The rice and beans are cooked with olive oil and vegetables, making most dishes adaptable for vegetarians.

Practical Notes

The restaurant is located at 40 E Main St in the center of Escalante, about 45 minutes east of Bryce Canyon on Scenic Byway 12. Hours are Tuesday through Friday, roughly 10 AM–5 PM — check ahead if you're planning a dinner stop, as midday is the reliable window. No website as of publication; call (435) 383-7880 to confirm hours before a long drive.

A really great Mexican restaurant! 🌮🇲🇽 I really enjoyed my experience at Chihuahua Garcia Mexican Grill. The food was simple, fresh and really tasty, and the service was quick, which was perfect after a long day on the road. We are not from the United States and weren’t very familiar with some of the dishes, so our server was really helpful and took the time to explain the options and help us choose what to order. It made the experience much easier and more enjoyable. Everything was straightforward, delicious and reasonably quick. Great food, friendly service and a welcoming atmosphere. I would definitely recommend it if you’re passing through!

The food and service were great! It is a walk-up window and there are picnic tables outside to eat at. There are not a lot of options in the town for dining and we were not expecting much but the food was great and better than expected! The flavors were authentic and portions were generous.

Legit street tacos. I got the carne asada ones with their homemade red salsa and they were excellent. Nice spot in the middle of the remotest part of Utah
