Chihuahua Garcia Mexican Grill

Scratch-made Mexican in the heart of Escalante

(144)
Escalante, UT

About

Chihuahua Garcia Mexican Grill opened its brick-and-mortar location on Escalante's Main Street in early 2026, graduating from a food truck operation that had already built a loyal following among locals and canyon-country travelers. Owners Edgar Garcia and Johanna Gonzalez run the place themselves, and the food reflects their roots: authentic Mexican cooking, not a tourist approximation of it.

What to Order

The menu centers on tacos, burritos, and bowls made with ingredients prepared in-house daily. Shrimp tacos, fish tacos, and wet burritos are among the standout items, and the kitchen makes its salsa and pickled onions from scratch. Chips are house-made and well-salted. Portions run generous. The rice and beans are cooked with olive oil and vegetables, making most dishes adaptable for vegetarians.

Practical Notes

The restaurant is located at 40 E Main St in the center of Escalante, about 45 minutes east of Bryce Canyon on Scenic Byway 12. Hours are Tuesday through Friday, roughly 10 AM–5 PM — check ahead if you're planning a dinner stop, as midday is the reliable window. No website as of publication; call (435) 383-7880 to confirm hours before a long drive.

Ate here for lunch and it was great! We were sad to see Nemo’s go but the food here is good too. Seating is all outdoors but mostly shaded. 4 stars only because they close so early you can’t grab dinner or ice cream after an evening hike. Also, it’s not clear but they do still sell ice cream and shakes.

We had the California Burrito and the Carne Asada Fries and they were both excellent! Extremely tasty, just on the small side split between 2 people for the price. Should probably order one burrito each if you don't mind dropping another 20. No indoor seating or anything, but there are some tables outside that are shaded.

This place slaps. Sometimes you don't know what you're going to get in rural utah. I got the carne asada fries and my wife got the carne asada burrito. We both agreed the meat was good quality and really good. Their salsa was very flavorful. Our kids loved their kids meals and the fry sauce was better than normal. It's a fun atmosphere with outside only seating and lots of picnic style tables with umbrellas.
