Cowboy's Smokehouse Cafe/Steakhouse
Mesquite-smoked BBQ fare & steaks in a vintage brick building with plank walls & a laid-back vibe.
About
Cowboy's Smokehouse Cafe has been feeding Panguitch locals and highway travelers since 1991. Anchored in a vintage brick building on Main Street, it earns its reputation with genuine pit-smoked meats — everything cooked over mesquite wood on a slow-burn pit — rather than shortcuts. Panguitch sits about 25 miles north of Bryce Canyon's entrance, making this a practical dinner stop after a day in the park.
What to Order
The menu centers on slow-smoked BBQ plates where all meats are served with your choice of two sides. Pulled pork and pork ribs are the backbone of the menu; steaks run from sirloin to ribeye and filet mignon for those who want something off the pit. Baked beans, fries, and yams are reliable sides. Save room for the warm peach cobbler with ice cream — it's housemade and worth the extra few minutes.
Atmosphere and Practical Notes
The interior leans into the western theme with plank walls and an unhurried, laid-back vibe — plastic utensils have given way to a full sit-down service over the decades, though the spirit stays casual. The kitchen runs a kids menu and can accommodate vegetarian diners. Hours run Monday through Saturday, 11 AM to roughly 8–8:30 PM; closed Sundays. If you're pushing through Panguitch on a summer evening, arriving before 7:30 PM is a safe bet to get a table without a wait.

I was visiting family and they suggested we eat here, as they love it. Of course I agreed to go. Having put myself through college working as a waitress, I have to say the only thing that topped the service was the food!
