Asay Knoll

A quiet loop hike with a 360-degree payoff.

About

Asay Knoll rises to about 8,163 feet on the Asay Bench in Garfield County's Dixie National Forest backcountry, a short drive from Alton. A loop trail of roughly four miles circles and climbs the knoll, staying mostly easy but picking up a couple of rocky, rougher patches on the way up that bump the overall difficulty a notch.

What you get up top

  • 360-degree views across the surrounding forest and plateau country
  • A moderate, half-day loop rather than a technical climb
  • Quiet, low-traffic hiking typical of this part of the forest

This is Forest Service land, not park interior, so dogs and dispersed camping in the area are generally fine — check current conditions with the Dixie National Forest office before heading out, since roads here can be rough or seasonally impassable.
