Barney Top
A 10,620-foot plateau summit seen from a distance, reached off-trail.
About
Barney Top is a 10,620-foot summit on the Aquarius Plateau in the Dixie National Forest, in the high country between Bryce Canyon and Escalante. It's visible from a distance on some of the area's better-known routes — hikers on the Boulder Mail Trail and the Petrified Forest Trail near Escalante both get views back toward it and Wide Hollow Reservoir.
Getting to the summit itself is a different matter: this is an unmaintained backcountry route with essentially no published trail description, distance, or elevation-gain figures. It's the kind of peak known mainly to peakbaggers working from a topo map rather than a marked trailhead. Treat it as remote Forest Service terrain — good route-finding skills and a topo map are the prerequisites here, not a trailhead sign.
