Figure-8 Combination

Three trails, one long loop through hoodoo country

(0)
Bryce Canyon National Park, UT

About

The Figure-8 Combination links Queen's Garden, the Peekaboo Loop, and the Navajo Loop into the longest day hike inside the Bryce Amphitheater. NPS recommends descending Queen's Garden clockwise, connecting into Peekaboo, then climbing out via either side of Navajo Loop before finishing along the Rim Trail back to Sunrise Point. It's a full tour of the park's hoodoo country in one outing, without needing a shuttle.

Good to know

  • 6.4 miles round-trip with about 320 feet of cumulative elevation change, typically 4-5 hours
  • Rated strenuous - this is the longest of the amphitheater combination hikes
  • Parking at Sunrise or Sunset Point; both lots fill early in summer
  • Navajo Loop's Wall Street side has had recent closures for trail stabilization and storm damage - check current NPS trail status before you go, and use the Two Bridges side as the winter/backup route
  • Pets are not permitted on any of these trails

Best Time to Hike the Figure-8 Combination

Aim for an early morning start in summer - this long, multi-trail route crosses exposed stretches of the amphitheater that heat up quickly once the sun is up, and cooler temperatures make the return climb out of the amphitheater more comfortable. Conditions on this combination route can also change with weather and ongoing maintenance work, so check current NPS trail status before you go regardless of the season.

Trail Tips for the Figure-8 Combination

  • 6.4 miles round-trip with about 320 feet of cumulative elevation change, typically taking 4 to 5 hours - budget a full morning or afternoon
  • Rated strenuous, and the longest of Bryce's amphitheater combination hikes - not a casual first outing in the park
  • Navajo Loop's Wall Street side has had recent closures for trail stabilization and storm damage; check current NPS trail status before you go and use the Two Bridges side as the winter or backup route
  • Pets are not permitted on any of these trails - Queen's Garden, Peekaboo Loop, or Navajo Loop

Getting to the Figure-8 Combination Trailhead

Access the Figure-8 Combination from either Sunrise Point or Sunset Point along the Bryce Amphitheater rim - both work as a start and finish point since the route loops back via the Rim Trail. This route is inside Bryce Canyon National Park, so an entry pass is required.

  • Park at Sunrise Point or Sunset Point - either lot works as a trailhead
  • Both lots fill early in summer, so arrive early to reliably find parking

What to Expect on the Figure-8 Combination

The Figure-8 Combination stitches Queen's Garden, the Peekaboo Loop, and the Navajo Loop together into one continuous day hike inside the Bryce Amphitheater. Following the NPS-recommended sequence, hikers descend Queen's Garden clockwise, connect into Peekaboo, then climb back out via either side of Navajo Loop before finishing along the Rim Trail to Sunrise Point. Because the route loops back to its starting rim, it delivers a full tour of the park's hoodoo country in one outing without needing a car shuttle between trailheads.
