Tropic, UT

About

Bryce Trails Bed and Breakfast is a small inn on Bryce Way in Tropic, roughly a 10-minute drive from the Bryce Canyon entrance. It operates as a true B&B — country breakfast included, individually decorated rooms, a sun deck with mountain views — rather than a motel that happens to serve coffee in the lobby. For travelers who prefer a more personal stay over a chain property, it's one of the stronger options in the immediate gateway area.

Rooms

The inn has six themed rooms, each named for a Bryce Canyon trail or feature:

  • Under the Rim Suite — the largest room, second floor, king bed, sitting area with leather chairs, and a massage chair
  • Fairy Land — queen bed, jacuzzi tub, separate shower, wooded views
  • Queen's Garden — light and airy, floral English garden theme
  • Bristle Cone Pine — forest-themed decor
  • Mossy Cave — outdoor adventure theme
  • Navajo Loop — named for the park's most-walked trail

Breakfast and Setting

A full country breakfast is served each morning — useful when you want to be at Sunrise Point early without stopping for food first. The outdoor sun deck looks out toward the plateau, and the surrounding area is quiet enough that you're not contending with parking-lot noise.

Booking Notes

The inn is small, so rooms book up during peak season (May through September). Reaching out directly via the website or phone is the most reliable way to confirm availability for specific dates.

This B&B is large, clean and extremely well maintained. Other than access to all the amenities like a microwave, coffee machine etc our room had a massage chair. Leine was kind and warm and cooked us a delicious eggs and avocado toast breakfast. The B&B has a view of some of the hoodoos of the Bryce national Park and just from our balcony I saw a number of birds, rabbits and deer.

What an amazing place to stay. We were taking a long weekend to visit Capitol Reef and stopped over at Bryce Trails BnB. The rooms was comfortable and large. Great views too. The breakfast was amazing and solid coffee lol. I love the idea of sitting across from strangers to hear what adventure they are headed out to see. I'd definitely stay here again and again. Reasonably priced and easy to get to.

There were several reasons for this 3 star review. First the good. Driving in the B&B looks appealing and great location for Bryce Park. Close to stores and restaurants. Parking and entry into B&B is easy. Breakfast is good with espresso machine. Now the not so good: check in is at 4 pm. I drove from Zion that morning and went up to Bryce Canyon to hike arriving at 10 am. I had a late lunch at the lodge, then hiked more to waste time before check in at 4 pm. I was beat and looking forward to getting a shower. I showed up at approximately 4:20 pm. I looked at my instructions emailed to me that morning and the key was not where it was supposed to be, so I called and nobody answered. I then saw the keys on the kitchen counter found mine, but could not find my room. The owner came down the stairs at that time and said "Hi , did you call me?". I explained everything. She then went on to say there was a plumbing issue that was resolved and the room would not be ready for another 20 minutes or so. Stuff happens and this would not have been an issue had she informed me prior to my arrival. I did not receive any information regarding this. She could have sent me a quick text message letting me know. She did say she would give me a discount, we will see if that transpires. I waited for the room to be cleaned. The room is downstairs (Fairytail) next to the kitchen/living room (which was not in description of room). It is very spacious and clean. The bed and bedding are ok, definitely could use new pillows. Towels were fine. Jacuzzi tub is nice touch. I showered then went to dinner and came back around 830. Unfortunately the insulation between floors and walls in this B&B (at least for this room) is not good. I could hear everything from the room up stairs (TV blaring, walking around, closing doors, talking, etc) and people walking around in the kitchen area (next to this room) opening and closing doors, talking, etc. The white noise machine in the room does not help to block out these noises some that continued until almost midnight when I was finally able to get to sleep. Here I am again the second night (thankful it's my last night) it is almost 9 PM, people walking around upstairs and can hear their conversation, people using the espresso machine which is right next to this room, someone doing dishes at 9 PM in the kitchen. I have no idea how the other rooms upstairs are, but I do not recommend the Fairyland downstairs room unless you don't mind noise all night, staying up late, waking up early, or can sleep through anything. I have stayed in other B&B's including one in Zion and they had strict quiet time from 9 pm until 6:30 am and I could barely hear anything from the other rooms 3 upstairs 2 downstairs. The kitchen was cleaned up in the morning and rooms were all cleaned by 3 PM. They also have carpet in the upstairs rooms to help insulate the noise to the downstairs. Unfortunately, because of this experience at Bryce Trails, I would not stay here again. I recommend the following: making quiet time hours and being sure all guests are aware, carpeting the upstairs rooms to somewhat help with the noise level downstairs. Not doing dishes at 9 PM at night. Nobody in kitchen/living room after 9 pm. Luckily I found a pair of earplugs today I forgot I had and will be wearing them tonight on top of the white noise machine and hope I get more than 5 hours of sleep.

My wife and I like B & Bs for the breakfasts and the innkeepers. The location had beautiful views and this was a private residence on a residential street. The woman who runs this B&B was extremely unfriendly. When we arrived we introduced ourselves and we were answered with a grunt. No name. She never asked where we were from, what we were doing during our stay, where else we were visiting on our trip, or if we needed advice or had questions about the local area or the park. Every time I encountered her during our 2 night stay she seemed distracted and genuinely unhappy. She did offer dinner recommendations when asked. The breakfasts were ok; nothing special (the eggs benedict on day 2 were ice cold). The kitchen was dirty with the remnants from the last meal all over the place. She left the eggs out overnight. The coffee pot in our room had no filter. She told us there is always coffee available in the main room, but I’m pretty certain it was the same pot for the first 36 hours we were there. Nasty coffee. The icing on the cake? When we awoke the second morning I went into the common area looking for coffee. The entire kitchen and eating area was filled with smoke and there was a pot actively burning on the stove. A teenager (daughter of innkeeper?) was coughing and opening windows as the flames rolled out of the pot. I asked where the innkeeper was and the girl said she couldn’t find her. She told me I should go outside since it was too dangerous and she ran out. I turned off the stove and brought the burning pot outside. Later I asked the woman about it and she blew me off. She said there are smoke detectors. That may be true, but they clearly were not functioning properly. She offered no explanation or any thanks for my help. NOTE: The reply to my review contains a very serious inaccuracy. There was absolutely an active fire in the pot, with the flames extending 12-18" from the top of the pot. I was a professional firefighter for 32 years and I know exactly what an active fire is. This was not smoking butter, and I am shocked that the owner would A) try to minimize the incident, B) imply that my statement was false or misleading, and C) state that there was no active fire when she wasn't present and did not see what happened. On top of that, there may be smoke detectors in that part of the home, but if there are they were definitely not functioning properly or as designed at the time of the incident.
