Tropic, UT

About

Stone Canyon Inn sits on the west edge of Tropic, a small town 11 miles from the Bryce Canyon National Park entrance. The property is a step above the standard gateway motel: it offers a mix of standalone cabins, tree houses, bungalows, and a guest house, all oriented toward canyon and plateau views. A sauna, steam room, and on-site restaurant round out the amenities without overcrowding the experience.

Accommodations

The property's range makes it work for couples, families, and groups. Cabins sleep up to six with two bedrooms, full kitchens, and private hot tubs on the deck. Tree houses sit above the tree line with a king bed, a loft with twin mattresses, and a deck with gas fire pit — the views of Bryce Canyon from up there are genuinely good. Bungalows are king suites with a private porch for a simpler, quieter stay. A full guest house accommodates four, with a jetted tub and laundry in-unit.

On-Site Amenities

  • Sauna and steam room available for guests
  • On-site restaurant serving dinner (check current hours when booking)
  • Free Wi-Fi throughout the property
  • Private BBQ grilles on cabin decks

Location Notes

Tropic is quieter and less commercial than Bryce Canyon City, which appeals to visitors who want to be close to the park without the resort-area bustle. The park entrance is about a 15-minute drive, and the towns of Cannonville and Kodachrome Basin are within easy range for day trips. Book ahead for summer stays — the property is small and fills quickly in peak season.

We had a wonderful stay at the Stone Canyon Inn. We were especially impressed by the lovely lady at check-in. She was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and attentive, and she also gave us excellent recommendations for activities and things to do in the area. We also loved the beautiful location of the hotel, which is perfect for exploring the stunning scenery around Bryce Canyon. Our cabin was very cozy, comfortable, and especially well suited for a larger family. A particular highlight was the wonderful hot tub in the cabin, which was perfect for relaxing after a long day of exploring. Overall, we had a fantastic stay and felt very well taken care of. The combination of the beautiful location, comfortable cabin, excellent hospitality, and helpful recommendations made our stay truly special. We highly recommend the Stone Canyon Inn, especially for families!

We rented a 2 bedroom cabin in Tropic Utah. Yhe cabin was fully appointed with full kitchen, 2 baths, a large deck with grill and hot tub, and a smaller deck for sitting. TV''s in living room and bedrooms. This cabin was beautiful as well as the surrounding area. Slightly remote to get to, but easy to find, and very much worth it. I highly recommend Stone Canyon in for your stay.

We were looking for an affordable, clean room to spend the night, but got so much more! Our King room was immaculate, and furnished with everything we needed for a good night’s sleep. No traffic, or noisy neighborhood, and the 360 views from outside are amazing! The room itself is very beautifully finished. This is a little gem on your way through, or stopping for a visit in the Bryce Canyon area.

What a delightful little hidden gem! We stayed in one of the tree houses last minute when we got rained out of our campsite. What a treat! It was the best accommodations of our whole trip. The tree house had a grill so we got to have our camping meal and the boys roasted s’mores on the fire pit. The views were unreal. Please do yourself a favor and stay here!

We’ve stayed at Stone Canyon Inn twice now—both times over Christmas—and it has become one of our favorite places to stay in southern Utah. We’ve stayed in the cabin on both visits and absolutely love it. It’s cozy, comfortable, and feels like a true retreat, especially during the winter season. The property itself is beautiful and peaceful, and the location is perfect—just minutes from the park, making it incredibly convenient while still feeling quiet and tucked away. What really sets this place apart, though, is the hospitality. The family that owns and runs the inn is genuinely kind, welcoming, and attentive, and you can tell they truly care about their guests’ experience. We’ve felt at home every time we’ve stayed and look forward to coming back again. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a comfortable, well-located stay with thoughtful, personal touches.
