Marilyn Bulkley Park

Creekside green space in Bryce's gateway town

Panguitch, UT

About

Marilyn Bulkley Memorial Park is a small city park along Panguitch Creek in Panguitch, the largest gateway town on the western end of the Bryce Canyon corridor. The park was named in honor of Marilyn Bulkley, who helped organize and create the creek-side green space as a community resource. Panguitch sits about 24 miles northwest of Bryce Canyon National Park via US-89 South.

Setting and Use

The park occupies a quiet stretch along Panguitch Creek, providing a green break in a town that otherwise serves mainly as a practical overnight base — gas, groceries, motels, and a handful of local restaurants. It includes picnic tables and an amphitheater area, making it a reasonable lunch stop or afternoon rest between drives. The creek setting keeps the area cooler than open desert, especially on summer afternoons.

Who It's For

This is a neighborhood park, not a destination attraction. Families traveling with kids who need to stretch between Bryce and Cedar Breaks — or anyone who just wants a quiet spot away from highway noise — will find it a practical stop. It's also a low-key option for an early morning walk before heading south on US-89 toward the park. No admission fee and parking is available on-site. Amenities are basic; verify current restroom availability before planning around the park.

What to See at Marilyn Bulkley Park

The park runs along a stretch of Panguitch Creek, giving it a natural character that sets it apart from a typical roadside rest stop. The creek provides ambient sound and shade, and the corridor of streamside vegetation stays noticeably green through the summer months. On-site amenities include picnic tables and an amphitheater area — enough infrastructure to support a real midday break rather than just a quick stop. The park reflects its founding purpose as a community green space, and that low-key, neighborhood feel carries through in the setting: quiet, uncrowded, and useful for travelers who need a moment off the highway without driving out of their way.

Visitor Tips

  • The creek setting provides natural shade and cooler air on summer afternoons — worth keeping in mind if you're arriving after a morning of hiking at elevation.
  • Panguitch has gas stations, grocery options, and restaurants nearby, making the park a practical base for restocking before heading toward Bryce Canyon.
  • The amphitheater area can accommodate small group gatherings, but the park is a neighborhood resource first — keep noise levels appropriate to a residential setting.

Planning Your Visit

Marilyn Bulkley Park is located in downtown Panguitch, roughly 24 miles northwest of Bryce Canyon National Park. It works well as a stop on the way into or out of the Bryce corridor, particularly for families with children who need time outside between drives. Parking is available on-site. Restroom availability can vary, so confirm current conditions before planning around the park's facilities. There are no structured hours or entry requirements for the park itself — it functions as an open public space within the town.

Marilyn Bulkley Park is an outdoor park. Sometimes called the Outdoor School, this area has plenty of space to explore and walk around. It offers a peaceful atmosphere, perfect for a quick break or a family picnic. The grounds and picnic tables make it an ideal spot to relax after exploring Panguitch and scenic attractions like Bryce Canyon. Some of the area is overgrown and they are in the process of laying down new trails/walkways but it is a quiet area to be next to Panguitch Creek with the sound of the water. Parking is at the top of the area with a dirt trail that leads down to the park. If you’re in Panguitch and looking for a spot to unwind, stop by Marilyn Bulkley Park. It’s a small but meaningful piece of this lovely town!
